Meta has unveiled two new monetisation features designed to benefit eligible creators in Kenya, providing them with opportunities to earn money through their content on Facebook.

The new tools, In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels, aim to reward creators for producing original videos and fostering community engagement.

Commenting on the launch, Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey (AMET) at Meta, expressed enthusiasm about the new development.

"Everyday, we’re inspired by the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others and bring people together," Moon stated.

This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry in Kenya to earn money, whilst setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators."

The In-Stream Ads feature allows advertisements to be placed before, during, or after on-demand videos, whether they are pre-recorded or replays of live streams.

Various types of In-Stream Ads include Pre-roll Ads, which appear before a video begins; Mid-roll Ads, which are shown during videos; Image Ads, which display static images beneath the content; and Post-roll Ads, which are visible at the end of videos.

Similarly, Facebook Ads on Reels are integrated directly into original Reels, enabling creators to monetise their content based on the performance of their Reels while engaging and entertaining their audience.

Starting Tuesday, creators in Kenya who meet the eligibility criteria can begin earning from their videos and reel content.

These features support over 30 languages globally, including Swahili. To qualify for monetisation, creators must adhere to Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies, and they must be at least 18 years old.

In addition, those wishing to use In-Stream Ads must meet specific requirements, such as having a minimum of 5,000 followers.

This initiative underscores Meta's commitment to supporting and elevating the creative economy in Kenya, while positioning its platforms as essential tools for content creators worldwide.
