Tech giant Infinix has ignited a spark of innovation across Africa with the launch of its largest CogLabs workshop to date.

Held at the University of Nairobi on Thursday, the event brought together over 200 students in a collaborative effort with UNESCO and Google to demystify artificial intelligence and robotics.

The CogLabs initiative, a cornerstone of Infinix’s commitment to youth empowerment, aims to equip the next generation with the skills to shape Africa’s technological future.

By providing hands-on experience in robotics, machine learning, and AI, the program seeks to cultivate a new breed of innovators and problem-solvers.

"It is a true honour for Infinix to collaborate with UNESCO and Google in globally promoting the CogLabs project," said Michael Zeng, Brand Manager of Infinix Kenya.

"This project is designed to build capacity in crucial domains such as robotics, machine learning, and AI, with a focus on education equality, to transform knowledge into resilient ownership and foster sustainable development."

The heart of the CogLabs initiative is its accessibility. Participants are guided through a process of building their own robots using readily available materials – 3D printed parts and repurposed smartphones.

This practical approach not only reduces costs but also encourages creativity and resourcefulness.

"The CogLabs project is a shining example of how we can inspire and empower the next generation to embrace the transformative power of AI and robotics," said Joan Nadal, Master Trainer of UNESCO at STEM Education.

"By partnering with innovative companies like Infinix and Google, we are providing young learners with the tools and resources to design, build, and program their own robotic creations."

The Nairobi workshop was a testament to the program's growing impact.

Students were immersed in a dynamic learning environment where they constructed robots, trained them to recognize objects and respond accordingly, and gained invaluable insights into coding and machine learning.

The event also marked a significant milestone with the preview of the CogLabs mobile app.

Developed in collaboration with Google, the app will democratize access to AI education by enabling users to explore machine learning and programming without the need for a laptop.

"We are thrilled to preview the mobile application of the CogLabs initiative," shared John Kimani, Head of Developer Relations, Sub-Saharan Africa, Google.

"Google's emphasis on promoting digital literacy and making learning accessible to all aligns perfectly with the CogLabs mission."

Infinix has ambitious plans to expand the CogLabs initiative across Africa. By organizing workshops in various countries and providing necessary resources, the company aims to create a network of young AI enthusiasts.

"We firmly believe that every young mind possesses unlimited potential, and we believe that advanced technologies, such as AI, will open the doors to a brighter future for all," added Michael Zeng.

As the world increasingly embraces AI, Infinix's CogLabs initiative stands as a beacon of hope, empowering Africa's youth to become architects of their own technological destiny.
