Samsung Electronics East Africa has officially closed its pre-orders for the new Galaxy Flip and Fold 5 after their unpacking during a Global event held in Korea on July 26, 2023.
Samsung terms the pre-order successful saying it exceeded its targets by more than 25 per cent, cementing its position as the market leader in the Foldable smartphone segment.
After the July launch, Samsung Electronics East Africa Director of Mobile Experience Charles Kimari told Swala Nyeti they aimed to sell 3,000 units in Kenya during pre-order and 500-700 units weekly until end year.
The success of the pre-order has been attributed to the device financing partnership with Absa Kenya allowing device financing over a period of three, six, nine or 12 months.
The tech firm also attributed the success of the one-month pre-order campaign to its other partnership with Badili Africa that allowed Samsung users to trade-in their mobile devices.

“The Fold has always been the driver for the Foldable smartphone category but this year we have seen a shift in purchase trends, with a higher number of purchases for the Flip,” said Kimari.
He added, “We can attribute this to the acquisition steps we have taken like partnership with Badili Africa who offer trade in service and our new partnership with Absa Kenya who offer device financing payment methods which will allow our customers to acquire these devices.”
The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold 5, Galaxy Watch 6 series and Galaxy Tab S9 series, which were unveiled at Unpacked, will all be available at Samsung authorised dealer stores nationwide.
“Early users’ response to the new Galaxy devices has been demonstrated by pre-order momentum,” intimated Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at TM Roh.
He added: “With the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, Watch6 series, and Tab S9 series, our goal is to provide the latest and greatest in each category, thus providing our consumers with novel and engaging experiences that cater to various lifestyles. It is thrilling to see our vision resonating with consumers around the world.”
Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 are the fifth generation of Samsung’s foldable devices, and the firm reveals the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic also witnessed high demand.
