Samsung on Wednesday launched its fifth generation of Galaxy foldables - Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 opening the three-month pre-order window in Kenya.
Samsung revealed that, ahead of the official launch of the new Galaxy foldables in Seoul, Korea, it already received 70 pre-orders for the new foldable smartphone gadgets in Kenya.
The new Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 boast of sleeker and more compact designs, new Flex Hinge and offers the user numerous customisation options, and powerful performance.
These foldable devices also allow the user to take amazing photos from creative angles using its FlexCam feature, has an enhanced performance and a longer battery life.
“Every day, more people choose our foldables because they offer an experience people want that they can’t get on any other device,” said Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile Experience Business TM Roh.
He added: “Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 are the latest devices that prove our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers through innovative technology.”
The two fifth generation of Galaxy foldables have slimmer and flat designs with their waterdrop hinges allowing both smartphones to completely shut when they are folded.
The new Flex Window on both Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 allows for seamless use and the main screen has a shock dispersion layer and a redesigned back solidifying its display.
Both devices have an IPX8 rating and are equipped with Armor Aluminum frames, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus2 that applies to both the Flex Window and back cover.
This new integrated hinge module features a dual rail structure, diffusing external impacts.
Pocket Protection
Galaxy Z Flip5’s new Flex Window is 3.78 times larger than its predecessor offering extra personalization options and a new Flipsuit Case for protection with a changeable NFC card.
Galaxy Z Flip5 uses enhanced AI to boost camera experiences even in environments with low light and its AI-powered image signal processing (ISP) algorithm adjusts any visual noise.
Productivity Powerhouse
Galaxy Z Fold5 comes with a large screen offering the user an immersive experience and a longer battery life and is the thinnest and lightest Fold yet in the Galaxy Z series.
It has switched from the Multi Window and App Continuity to a variety of features including Taskbar, drag and drop, and optimization of third-party apps.
The S Pen Fold Edition, which was introduced in the third generation Fold launched in 2021, has also been improved to offer a better writing and productivity experience for the user.
The Taskbar has been improved to enable the users to switch between the four frequently used apps faster added to the improved two-handed drag and drop for better productivity.
The device’s 7.6-inch Main Screen offers better viewing experience in portrait or landscape modes with the peak brightness also boosted by more than 30 per cent to 1750 nits.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy offers better graphics and uses AI to enable dynamic gaming and multi-game functionality for an immersive gaming experience.
Planet Impact
Samsung reiterated its pledge to its environmental vision and speeded actions to realise its goals including reaching net zero carbon emissions by end of 2030 for its Device Experience Division.
Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 have more recycled materials, including pre-consumer recycled glass and aluminum and post-consumer recycled plastics, sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles.
The packaging box is also made using 100 per cent recycled material with each device having five years of security updates and four generations of OS upgrades for longevity.

Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available for pre-order in select markets from July 26, 2023 and will be more widely available from August 11, 2023.
Galaxy Z Flip5 comes in Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender with a variety of accessories.
Galaxy Z Fold5 is available in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream, with varied cases and a Slim S Pen Case, Clear Gadget Case, Eco-Leather Case, and a Standing Case with Strap.
Samsung East Africa Head of Mobile Division Charles Kimari says they are targeting to sell 3,000 units in Kenya during the pre-order period and 500-700 units weekly until end year.
“Compared to last time, this is going to be a 30 per cent jump. So, we are targeting to do 30-40 per cent. We were targeting an aggressive number but there’s a bit of constraints in terms of other factors economically so we downgraded a bit,” said Kimari.
