TECNO last month launched the Camon 20 series that falls in the midrange smartphone category that signifies a significant improvement to the attractive Camon series features.

We had a chance spend some time exploring the Camon 20 Premier 5G and got a taste and feel of the new device, the successor of the Camon 19 that was released in September 2022.

In the attractively made white and blue box, TECNO packs some pretty lovely accessories that include a charger, USB-C headphones and sleek phone case.

Here are a few of the observations we were able to make:

Design & Feel

The first impression you get when you hold the Camon 20 Premier 5G for the first time is that look and feel of class and elegance and TECNO went all out to improve the lineup on this.

TECNO has called the design on the back of the device “PUZZLE Deconstructionist Design” and with the phone coming in two colors, Dark Welkin, and Serenity Blue. The one we had to review was the former, a black one.

The back of the device has a leathery no-fingerprint looks and feels stylish and luxurious but offers the user a different feel from the usual glass of the previous TECNO Camon lineups.

The sleek phone comes with a stereo speaker setup for an enjoyable audio experience as the TECNO Camon series also finally adopted the under-display fingerprint scanner.

The 6.67″ AMOLED screen rocks a 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate and the scrolling feels smoother for browsing the web, especially social media where I reside.

The front screen has little bezels and the rails on the new smartphone device are flat making the chassis and its rounded edges robust to add to its modern deluxe finish at the back.

The stereo speaker is a bonus to the phone’s great experience for the device that received good reviews generally with the IP53 water/dust resistance, design and performance.

Premier Performance

Away from the stellar looks, the Camon 20 Premier 5G comes with 512GB ROM, 8GB+8GB extended RAM backed by a Dimensity 8050 5G chipset allowing for excellent performance.

The device operates on Android 13 and HiOS 13 and easily operated effectively and easily when I was running my daily tasks, including switching between apps and multi-tasking.

 Camon Camera

TECNO also went all big with the Camon 20 Premier 5G triple-camera setup that saw the back carrying a standard 50MP lens and 108MP wide lens in the stiff phone camera race.

The photos I took with the camera were pretty neat, although the processing by the device added slightly more contrast that might need to be corrected in the Camon 21, maybe.

However, the device flourishes at night with some pretty amazingly detailed and brighter shots with the Super Night mode giving me great shots in environments with low light.

The 32MP selfie camera backed by an LED flash at the front also takes some pretty amazing photos too.

The selfie camera can take quality videos of up to 1440p(2K) 30fps while the rear cameras can record videos of quality up to 4K 30fps, which is a plus for content creators like myself.

The Camon 20 Premier 5G is versatile and will please those who love photography and videography with the intention of using their products on the social media platforms.

Battery Life

The device’s large 5000mAh battery supports 45W fast charging speed and its battery life is quite impressive and I managed to use the device heavily on browsing for a full day easily.

The Camon 20 Premier 5G can get fully charged in just under 50 minutes – very impressive!

My Verdict

The Camon 20 Premier 5G is a pretty magnificently designed phone, a great performer too thanks to its latest hardware and takes some great shots no matter the lighting conditions.

The large and long-lasting battery and the super-fast charging make the latest addition to the premium Camon series worth every penny in the midrange smartphone category.
