LG Electronics East Africa has launched the 349-litre InstaView Bottom Freezer refrigerator in Nairobi, positioning it as a direct answer to food wastage and rising household energy costs in the region.
At the unveiling, Donghun Lee, President of LG East Africa, highlighted that the product had been designed with the realities of African homes in mind, where high electricity charges and frequent power cuts often restrict reliable refrigeration.
“This product is a response to the realities of African families who need food to last longer and who must be conscious of their energy use. It keeps groceries fresher for up to seven days and consumes less power than its other brand equivalents, helping reduce waste and deliver more value for every shilling spent,” Lee noted.
Research indicates that close to 40 per cent of food produced across the continent is lost before it reaches the table, largely due to poor storage facilities.
LG says the refrigerator addresses this problem through innovations such as its InstaView panel, which lights up the interior with two knocks, allowing users to see inside without opening the door and losing cold air.

Other features include uniform cooling across all shelves, a Smart Inverter Compressor designed to cut energy consumption while improving durability, and full compatibility with the LG ThinQ app for remote monitoring and maintenance alerts.
The company’s Head of Marketing, Jane Kariuki, emphasised that the launch reflects LG’s wider philosophy of designing technology that improves everyday life.
“Innovation is only meaningful when it makes life better. This product is a direct reflection of that philosophy by combining functionality, style, and sustainability,” Kariuki remarked
Certified under ENERGY STAR standards, the refrigerator is designed to reduce strain on both grid and off-grid power supplies, while at the same time assuring families that their groceries will last longer.
For households already stretched by high food prices and rising electricity bills, LG argues the model provides a means of reducing waste, easing pressure on budgets, and improving food security.
The refrigerator is already available at LG/Opalnet brand shops, retail partners such as Hotpoint Appliances, and major supermarkets across the country.
