The government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has asked internet users to dismiss reports on a local daily that the country will experience an interruption of internet services.

Oguna was reacting to concerns from internet users in the country after a local daily reported that relocation of fibre optic cable will occasion the interruption that would last 6 weeks.

He confirmed that indeed the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth affairs was moving the fibre optic cable however, the internet services would not be affected.

Oguna advised internet users not to panic and clarified that the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth affairs had engaged KeNHA to move the internet cables properly and causing no disruptions to internet services.

"Internet users are therefore hereby, advised not to panic as the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth affairs is working in conjunction with the Ministry of Infrastructure, through KeNHA," he said.

The relocation of the fibre optic cable is permanent and it will pave way for the construction of the 234 km Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit dual carriageway.

The permanent relocation exercise of the fibre optic cable will begin by the end of July 2021.
