Kenyan Golfer Naomi Wafula, who has been sponsored by Safaricom, has been invited to play at the prestigious Amundi German Masters in June this year.

This comes after Naomi impressed and made history by becoming the first Kenyan golfer to qualify for the Ladies European Tour held at Vipingo Ridge, Baobab course in Kilifi County.

She was among the five Kenyan amateur golfers who received a Sh1 million sponsorship from Safaricom’s M-Pesa GlobalPay in the just-concluded Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

U.COM Event CEO Dirk Glittenberg thanked all the sponsors of the Magical Kenya Ladies Open and the Ministry of Sports for the success of global golfing event.

“In June, we will be running Amundi German Masters, and we are delighted to make our first invite to Naomi Wafula to participate,” said Glittenberg.

He added, “She has made all of us proud by becoming the first Kenyan golfer to make a cut in the finals at the European Ladies Tour.”

Wafula carded four over par 77 in the final round of MKLO, which included five bogeys and only one bogey, to finish in 56th place, beating five professionals who also made the cut.


India’s golfer Aditi Ashok emerged triumphant at the 2023 Magical Kenya Ladies Open to carry the day by nine shots to bag her fourth Ladies European Tour title.

The two-time Olympian won at Vipingo Ridge where a round of 74 (+1) on the last day was enough for the clinch MKLO, which got a Sh26.8 million-boost from M-Pesa GlobalPay.


Safaricom also sponsored four other juniors; Jecinta Njeri, Kanana Muthomi, Idda Rose and Vivienne Otunde, who took part in the ProAm tournament.

The telcos also organized a golf clinic which saw a total of 16 junior golfers benefit from the golf clinic with coaching from professional golfers.
