Thousands of mourners from all corners of the country thronged the burial ceremony of Kenya's 2015 World Cross Country champion Agnes Jebet Tirop at  Kapnyamisa village, Mosoriot, Nandi county.


Tirop was found dead in her house last week in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, and was among  the 2020 Tokyo Olympics team where she finished fourth in the 5,000 meters final won by Sifan Hassan of the Netherland.



Athletes who attended the burial include Eunice Zum,Julius Yego, Conseslus Kipruto among others.

Ministry of Sports and Athletics Kenya officials as well as hundred of athletes turned up to pay their last respect for the athlete.


Ms Tirop was buried today  on what would have been her 26th birthday.

Her husband, Ibrahim Rotich, appeared in court this week as a suspect in her killing.

Dinah Tirop has called for an end to gender-based violence.

"I don't have much to say for today. I have mourned, I have cried, all my tears are gone," she said. "I give my daughter her final send-off and I ask God to give her her place," she said.
