President Uhuru Kenyatta charged the Team Kenya to carry with them a sense of duty during the oncoming Tokyo Olympics.

Uhuru said that during a flag handover ceremony at the State House on Thursday.

The president handed over the Kenyan flag to Kenya’s National Rugby Sevens player Amonde Andrew who replaced Julius Yego after Yego resigned from the position just a few days ago.

The president also conveyed his wished the team the best of his wishes and urged them to exhibit high levels of discipline while in Tokyo.

He also asked work hard and together as a team and be great ambassadors of Kenya in order to uplift the country’s reputation among the other participant nations.

“I ask you to be great ambassadors of our country. I expect you to work hard and together as Team Kenya towards building a stronger sporting sector and to bring glory to your country which I believe thereafter will inspire and nurture those who come in future,” said the president.

Uhuru emphasized that his government was committed to sport’ development in the country noting that the sports sector promotes values of service to the nation and hard work.

The president acting on behalf of all Kenyans wished all the athletes success and told them that the country is looking forward to welcoming the athletes home to celebrate their spoils from the Tokyo Olympics.

“On my behalf and on behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, I wish each and every one of you success as you head to Tokyo. We all look forward to welcoming you back home to celebrate your win at the 2020 Olympics.” Uluru said.

A total of 133 athletes from Kenya are going for the Olympic games in Tokyo.
