The Olympic games javelin silver medalist Julius Yego has resigned as the captain for Team Kenya to Tokyo.

Yego took to his Facebook account to announce his resignation and offer an explanation for his decision.

The African javelin champion cited unfavorable environment as his reason for renouncing his captainship.

“… the environment for me to be the captain aren’t favourable for me to lead this team”. Yego wrote.

He however said he will still remain an active member of the team and would offer the necessary help should need arise.

“I will remain an active member of the team and will help where need be” added the athlete.

On July 2, 2021, Yego shared his disappointment on his Facebook account that he was training solely and lonely without a coach.

The athlete who intimated that he was going through a rough patch towards the Tokyo Olympics also said that he wished things changed for the coming generation

“How I wish things can change and the future young generations will not be facing these avoidable scenarios. I know God the almighty will see me through this rough path towards Tokyo 2021 Olympics” Yego said.

However, the Team Kenya Manager Barnaba Korir has lashed back at Yego dismissing his concerns as “activism without facts”

Korir accused Yego of showing lack of seriousness in his training hence his poor form.

Yego retaliated by telling Korir not to drag his poor form into poor management and unfair treatment.

“Don’t drag my poor form into poor management or unfair team treatment!! I have medal for this great country in every championship available in athletic family! Sort the issues afrdginh the athletes and leave me alone

I haven’t asked for favors ! Changed will come, it’s coming” rebutted Yego
