The government has issued a clarification following widespread confusion and patient struggles to access healthcare services amid the ongoing rollout of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

On day three of the ambitious initiative, delays and system challenges have raised concerns among patients and healthcare providers alike.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health acknowledged the initial setbacks but reassured the public that the government is working diligently to resolve them.

“While early obstacles were expected, the rollout is progressing according to our revised timeline,” Health PS Hilary Kimtai stated, emphasising that the issues are being addressed in real-time.

Reports from various regions revealed that some patients encountered difficulties in receiving healthcare services, with delays attributed to system malfunctions and lack of clarity on how the new SHIF system operates.

The government confirmed that technical teams are on the ground to address these concerns swiftly.

"We are aware of the struggles faced by some of our citizens, and our teams are working round the clock to ensure the system is fully operational."

Amidst the confusion, the government reassured the public of its commitment to providing universal healthcare access through SHIF.

“The lessons learned from this stage are invaluable as we transition into full-scale implementation,” officials added, urging patience as the system is refined and improved.

Despite the challenges, the government remains optimistic that the SHIF rollout will ultimately improve healthcare accessibility for all citizens.

The authorities have vowed to keep the public informed with regular updates as the rollout continues, ensuring that any emerging issues are addressed promptly.
