A vibrant mix of tech experts and marketing professionals from across Africa gathered in the coastal city for the annual Information and Communication Technology Association of Kenya (ICTAK) Technology, Innovation, and Communication Organization of Africa (TICON) Conference.

Centred on the theme “Innovating Africa’s Future through Technology and Marketing,” the event sparked lively discussions on the continent's digital transformation and the critical role of responsible technology adoption.

Dennis Itumbi, Head of Creative and Special Projects in the Kenyan Executive Office, delivered a stirring keynote address, highlighting the growing menace of fake news.

“Misinformation is not merely a nuisance; it’s a national security risk that erodes the very fabric of democracy,” he cautioned.

Itumbi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling this issue through collaboration between the public and private sectors, advocating for fact-checking, responsible journalism, and cutting-edge technology.

Dr. Adrian Kamotho, Secretary General of the ICT Association of Kenya, urged participants to embrace technological advancements to propel Africa’s marketing strategies.

“As we stand at the cusp of innovation, Africa must harness the power of technology to redefine its marketing strategies,” he emphasised.

He spotlighted artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics as key tools to drive efficient campaigns and penetrate global markets.

David Gowu, TICON Africa President, in his closing remarks, emphasised the need for greater representation of ICT and marketing professionals in high-level policymaking.

“These fields are fundamental to Africa’s economic growth and global competitiveness,” he remarked, calling for concerted policymaking between governments, tech leaders, and marketing professionals.

As the TICON conference wrapped up, delegates left with a renewed sense of purpose and a mandate to drive digital innovation and address the challenges facing Africa’s digital landscape.

The event served as a catalyst for collaboration and action, setting the stage for a more connected, informed, and prosperous continent.
