A major traffic disruption is set to hit the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) prepares to close a section of Uhuru Highway for pedestrian underpass construction.

The closure, scheduled to begin on Saturday, and last until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, will affect the Haile Selassie Roundabout on Uhuru Highway.

KeNHA has advised motorists to familiarize themselves with the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

The diversion routes will be as follows:

Vehicles from Upperhill towards Waiyaki Way should use the diversion at Greenpark.

Vehicles from Mombasa Road to Waiyaki Way should also use the diversion at Greenpark.

Vehicles from Waiyaki Way to Mombasa Road should use the diversion at Rubis Petrol Station.

Vehicles from CBD to Mombasa Road can use the diversion at Rubis Petrol Station or the Ring Road behind Neno Evangelism Church.

However, vehicles travelling from CBD to Upperhill and vice versa will not be affected by the closure.

The closure is expected to cause significant traffic congestion in the city, particularly during peak hours.

KeNHA has urged motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.

The construction of the pedestrian underpass is part of the government's efforts to improve pedestrian safety and reduce traffic accidents in Nairobi.
