A police officer on Tuesday shot his two colleague before turning the gun on himself at Nyamira Administration Police (AP) line as he vehemently opposed his redeployment to the Nyamira governor’s residence.

AP constable Julius Mdachi, who also died in the incident, was armed with an AK47 rifle before he opened fire at his seniors at around 5:45pm opposing his looming redeployment.

Mdachi shot and injured both Chief Inspector Nicanor Odhiambo, 55, and Sergent Amani Ali, 49, on the right thigh before shooting himself on the lower chin with the bullet exiting on the right jaw.

The three officers were rushed to Nyamira County Referral Hospital, but the suspect and Ali died on arrival and their bodies were moved to the facility’s morgue to await an autopsy.

However, Odhiambo received medical attention at the same hospital before later being transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment.

Police recovered four spent cartridges, the AK47 rifle loaded with 26 rounds of ammunition at the scene of crime as they launched an investigation into the shocking incident.
