The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a stern warning as heavy rainfall, predicted to exceed 40mm within 24 hours, threatens multiple regions across the country.

The affected areas include the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Nairobi area, Southeast Lowlands, coast, and the northern sector.

In a statement released by the department, it was outlined that the intensity of the rainfall is expected to escalate further, potentially surpassing 50mm within 24 hours, particularly over the Rift Valley, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Nairobi area, Southeast Lowlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and offshore regions.

This adverse weather pattern is forecasted to persist from the April 25 - 27, 2024.

"Heavy rainfall, exceeding 40mm in 24hrs, is expected to persist across several regions including the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Nairobi area, Southeast Lowlands, coast, and northern sector from 25th April, 2024," the Met department stated.

Moreover, the Meteorological Department has highlighted additional risks accompanying the heavy rainfall.

Gusty winds, large ocean waves, and strong southerly winds are anticipated, particularly in the eastern sector of the country.

The department urged citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize safety measures in the face of these challenging weather conditions.

Although the forecast indicates a reduction in rainfall intensity by April 28, 2024, the public is advised to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential risks associated with the impending weather event.
