The Kenya Airports Authority issued a statement on Thursday addressing operational disruptions at Wilson Airport, one of the country's prominent aviation hubs.

According to the announcement, the runway lights at Wilson Airport went out of service due to a technical fault.

The authority affirmed to the members of the public that the incident sent their team to work in order to identify the root cause of the issue.

As a precautionary measure, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued, indicating the potential impact on flight operations.

"We would like to inform the public that the runway lights at Wilson Airport are currently out of service due to a technical fault," KAA stated.

"Our team is in the process of identifying the root cause. As a precautionary measure, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued."

The outage of the runway lights poses significant implications for flight operations, particularly during night-time or low-visibility conditions.

Without proper illumination, pilots face increased risks during take-off, landing, and taxiing procedures.

Passengers and stakeholders who rely on Wilson Airport for domestic and regional flights are expressing concerns over potential travel disruptions and delays.

The situation has prompted authorities to prioritize efforts to swiftly address the technical fault.

However, the Kenya Airports Authority has not provided a specific timeline for the restoration of the runway lights, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all airport users.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our valued passengers and stakeholders," the KAA stated in its announcement.

The situation underscores the critical role of infrastructure maintenance and operational reliability in the aviation industry.

Authorities are urged to expedite the resolution process to minimize disruptions and uphold safety standards at Wilson Airport.

In light of the ongoing investigation into the root cause of the technical fault, passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updates on flight schedules and possible alternative arrangements during this period of uncertainty.

Stakeholders remain hopeful for a prompt resolution to restore normalcy to Wilson Airport operations as the authorities continue their efforts to address the issue and ensure the uninterrupted flow of air traffic.
