Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga is in “good spirits” a day after he was discharged from Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday after he complained of fatigue and body aches. 

This is the assurance his personal doctor David Oduor Olunya gave on Wednesday after Raila underwent further medical examination conducted by a team of doctors in Nairobi.  

The 76-year-old ODM boss had on Tuesday been advised by his doctors to take a rest for two weeks even as they conducted more “routine” tests to establish what exactly was ailing him. 

“Hon. Odinga walked in for routine medical tests at The Nairobi Hospital on the March 9, 2021 after feeling some fatigue. He has had a rigorous campaign and needed to have some check-up. This was carried out successfully,” said the hospital’s consultant neurosurgeon, Dr Olunya. 

He added, “We are continuing to monitor his condition, and no doubt he will be able to address the country in due course. He is in good spirits.”

A tweet posted on Raila Odinga's twitter account on Wednesday at 8:08pm sought to assure that he was doing just fine.

His older brother, Dr Oburu Oginga, also gave an assurance to Kenyans that he was okay. 

“He is under monitoring by the medics and is in good condition,” he said.

The former Prime Minister’s son, Raila Odinga Junior, also posted on Twitter that his father was recovering well but did not disclose what was ailing him.

“Hi thanks everyone who called to find out how Baba is, he is good and actually called for a few minutes to speak with his grandson about school and importance of porridge, he’s in very good spirits,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

 

Raila checked into Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday complaining of fatigue but was discharged hours later, days after he concluded his five-day tour of coastal and North Eastern counties to popularise the BBI Bill after its passage by majority of County Assemblies.

Raila, in June 2020, went on a medical trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) for three weeks as he underwent a “minor” surgery on his back and secretly returned to the country.
