Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has sensationally claimed Deputy President and deputy party leader William Ruto interfered with party nominations ahead of the 2017 presidential poll.

Murathe made this claim as he insisted that DP Ruto should not be allowed anywhere near the party headquarters in Pangani as he is not the automatic presidential flagbearer for the party.

“Nothing says the deputy party leader is the automatic flagbearer of the party in 2022,” he said.

The controversial politician and businessman has instead challenged the deputy president to establish his own presidential secretariat to champion his ambition to replace Uhuru Kenyatta.

“If he wants to run for the party ticket, he needs to set up his own secretariat, organize his campaign from there,” he said during an interview with Anne Kiguta on Punchline on K24 tv.

Murathe argued that by Ruto having access to the Jubilee headquarters, it would give him unfair advantage over other party members who will seek its presidential ticket come 2022.

He added that it was also a measure to ensure the DP does not mess with party members and files as he allegedly did during the party primaries ahead of the 2017 general election.

“He cannot come to the party headquarters because he can have access and undue advantage over his competitors. He can play around with the numbers, with the membership files, like he did in 2017 party nominations for the Jubilee tickets.”

When challenged on why the ruling party did not raise issue and deal with the alleged actions by DP Ruto, this is what the outspoken Jubilee Party Vice Chairman had to say:

“Nobody knew this until after the fact and by then it was too late, there was an election to win.
