Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has bashed a section of top political leaders who are demanding that ODM leader Raila Odinga sacrifices his 2022 presidential ambitions in their favour.

Dr Mutua’s hard-hitting sentiments are widely seen to target the One Kenya Movement brigade led by Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader told off the “opportunistic” politicians asking them to respect Raila’s efforts and push for change through the Buiding Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“It is baffling and an indication of cognitive dissonance for some highly opportunistic leaders, who were not party to the handshake but who have benefited from it, to ask Raila Odinga to forego the benefits in their favour,” he said without mentioning names.

He added, “Talk of hyenas waiting for the spoils after the hunt.”

He credited Raila and his infamous handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying it helped stabilise the country and make it governable after the divisive 2017 election.

“Raila Odinga is one of my competitors in my quest to be the next President. However, I have to respect him and give him his dues, and not try to use his efforts for self-benefit as others are doing,” he added.

Dr Mutua accused the said leaders of using their ethnic tribes as political bargaining chips to mask their poor development records.

OPPORTUNISTIC LEADERS NEED TO RESPECT THE EFFORTS OF RAILA ODINGA

It is baffling and to all purposes...

This comes as Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetangula have recently accused Raila of insincerity demanding he shelves his 2022 presidential ambitions in favour of his former NASA colleagues.

It also comes amid tensions between the handshake and Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) partners President Kenyatta and Raila and their backers amid accusations a section of the government undermines the ODM boss.

There, however, seems to be a temporary ceasefire as the two sides seeks a middle ground after Raila's brigade led by Siaya Senator James Orengo threatened hellfire and brimstone accusing Interior CS Karanja Kibicho of leading the plot to betray the former PM.
