Residents of Sagana town in Kirinyaga County are on the cusp of witnessing a transformative chapter in their town's history as Governor Anne Waiguru takes the lead in establishing an industrial park.

Historically known for its vibrant past as an industrial hub, Sagana is now poised for a revival, shedding its empty warehouses and closed gates to usher in a new era of economic prosperity.

One resident, addressing the collective hope of the community, stated, “But the spirit of the people, the enthusiasm and the hope are starting to come together. With the upcoming Industrial Park by Governor Anne Waiguru, there is hope that the town will rise again. People here are anxious to see the town roar back to life with industries.”

The ambitious Industrial Park project aims to create more than 10,000 direct jobs, specifically targeting investors in agro-processing industries such as dairy, essential oils, integrated fruits and vegetables, beverages processing, agrovet processors, packaging factories, banks, hospitality, exports, and logistics.

Waiguru detailed the initiative, saying, “It targets investors in Agro-processing industries for produce such as dairy, essential oils, integrated fruits and vegetables, beverages processing, supportive industries such as agrovet processors, packaging factories, banks, hospitality, exports and logistics.”

Highlighting the overwhelming interest from investors, the Governor shared, “34 investors have applied to set up industries at the facility.”

The Industrial Park will host an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), including the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP).

Kirinyaga, among the five counties set to benefit from Sh1 billion in National government funding for EPZ development, possesses the necessary infrastructure like a railway line, dual carriage road, and water to support investment in manufacturing and agro-processing.

Governor Waiguru emphasized the broader impact of the project, stating, “This creates a great opportunity to grow jobs along the various value chains, raise incomes and close rural-urban inequality gaps as locals also participate in the global supply chain through value addition.”

As a visible commitment to the town's revival, the streets of Sagana have already undergone cabro-paving.

The Governor's dedication to the initiative is reflected in her administration's efforts to give Sagana a facelift and pave the way for economic prosperity.

With Sagana Industrial Park gaining momentum under Governor Anne Waiguru's leadership, the town anticipates a resurgence, symbolizing a new chapter in its history and the promise of a thriving economic landscape for Kirinyaga County.
