Five people died following a devastating accident that occurred at Kikopey Trading Centre along the Gilgil-Nakuru highway at about 8:30pm on Sunday.

According to the Nationa Police Service (NPS), the incident involved a Mercedes-Benz trailer, the full registration of which remains undisclosed.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the trailer, headed towards Nakuru, tragically veered out of control, claiming the lives of two adult male pedestrians upon impact.

The force of the collision proved fatal, leaving the victims with no chance of survival.

In a subsequent turn of events, the same trailer careened into iron sheet structures a short distance from the roadway.

Inside the structures, three male adults, engrossed in a game of pool, met an untimely demise as the heavy vehicle smashed through, causing fatal injuries.

The aftermath of the accident extends beyond the loss of life, with significant property damage reported.

The indiscriminate path of destruction included three parked vehicles – a Land Rover, Peugeot 405, and Isuzu Trooper – all of which fell victim to the trailer's destructive trajectory.

As authorities strive to make sense of this tragic incident, efforts are actively underway to apprehend the driver of the Mercedes-Benz trailer.

The police reported that the unidentified driver fled the scene immediately following the accident, adding a layer of urgency to ongoing investigations.

The Kikopey community now grapples with the aftermath of this self-involved catastrophe, mourning the loss of five lives and contending with the considerable material damage left in its wake.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable and devastating consequences that can arise from a momentary lapse of control on the road.
