Nairobi Members of the county Assembly (MCAs)on Wednesday voted to rename the First Avenue in Eastleigh, Nairobi County after late Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji in the next two weeks.
Senator Haji passed away last month at the age of 80 and the MCAs Tuesday passed a motion to rename the road to recognise his 55 years in the public service working for Kenyans.
Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo moved the motion describing Haji as a symbol of peace and a an efficient, knowledgeable and humble leader and public servant.
“Haji’s exceptional negotiations and strategic mediation skills cannot go unrecognised as the whole country saw his efforts to promote peace and stability in Somalia and beyond under the operation Linda Nchi in 2011,” Guyo said.
Guyo added that the late senator’s notable qualities is the reason President Uhuru Kenyatta chose him to lead the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment Bill.
