The US Embassy in Nairobi on Friday issued a travel alert cautioning US citizens and other foreign nationals residing in or visiting Kenya of possible terrorist attacks.

The alert talks of possible attacks on high-traffic areas frequented by foreigners and tourists across Nairobi and other parts of the nation.

"Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks," said the US Government in the statement.

According to the embassy's statement, these attacks may materialize with little or no prior notice, with terrorists are said to be eyeing a broad spectrum of establishments, including hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls, markets, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other public venues that are popular among foreigners and tourists.

In response to these concerning developments, the US Embassy has provided the following measures for US nationals to follow for personal security:

Stay Alert in Locations Frequented by Tourists/Foreigners: Maintain heightened awareness in areas commonly visited by tourists and foreigners.

Review Your Personal Security Plans: Take a meticulous look at your individual security plans, ensuring they are robust and up-to-date to mitigate potential risks.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Exercise vigilance regarding your immediate environment and those around you. This critical awareness can be a pivotal factor in averting unforeseen threats.

Monitor Local Media for Updates: Regularly consult local media sources to keep abreast of evolving developments that might impact personal security.

Avoid Protest Areas and Demonstrations: To minimize exposure to potential danger, it is recommended that individuals steer clear of areas where protests and demonstrations are taking place.

Avoid Crowds: Reducing participation in large gatherings is a prudent safety measure. Smaller groups may present fewer security risks.

Keep a Low Profile: Remaining inconspicuous can serve as a protective measure, reducing the likelihood of attracting unwanted attention.

This comprehensive advisory is a direct response to the sustained threat of terrorist attacks in Kenya and demonstrates the U.S. Embassy's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens and other foreign nationals residing or travelling in the region.

The Embassy emphasizes the importance of vigilance and preparedness in navigating high-risk areas, urging individuals to abide by the recommended actions to ensure their safety and security.
