Wajir East MP Aden Daud Mohamed is raising concerns over alleged plans by the government to allow setting up of a foreign military base at Wajir Airport.

Mohamed, while speaking in the National Assembly on Tuesday, wanted the Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to confirm whether there are plans to set up a foreign military base at the airport.

He also inquired if the government held any public participation before granting approval for the project.

"Could the Cabinet Secretary confirm whether there are plans to set up a foreign military base at Wajir International Airport and state whether the Government undertook any public participation prior to granting approval for the setting up of the said Base?" Mohamed asked.

The MP also wanted to know if the establishment of the foreign military base will deprive Kenyan citizens of use of the airport for aviation.

"Will the setting up of the foreign Army Military Base make the Wajir Airport a no-go zone for citizens who regularly use the airport for aviation purposes?" he posed.

The questions will be addressed before the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations.

Mohamed's concerns stemmed from word going around that there is a potential plan to establish an American military base in Wajir.
