Nine individuals, including senior officials of the Njiwa Sacco, a savings and credit SACCO society, have been apprehended by detectives in connection with the vanishing of approximately Sh160 Million.

The suspects, all affiliated with the National Intelligence Service (NIS), were taken into custody as a result of a comprehensive joint inquiry conducted by detectives and NIS officials.

The arrested individuals comprise Amos Kipchumba, who served as the SACCO's internal auditor; Violet Wali, the loans manager; Caren Langat, the accountant; and system analysts Hamisi Zaunga and Miriam Nthenya.

Additionally, Nicodemus Osiemo, a teller, Eric Rono from Sure-step Systems, Moses Ntoinya, an NIS officer who collaborated with the SACCO staff to misappropriate the funds, and Tony Wabomba, a former employee of the SACCO society, are also among those taken into custody.

The nine apprehended individuals are now facing a total of nine charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, stealing by servant, false accounting by servant, negligence, computer fraud, forgery, uttering a false document, and access with intent to commit an offence, among others.

'They are set to appear in court on Monday, September 25, 2023, where they will be required to account for their alleged crimes.

Simultaneously, investigators are diligently pursuing three additional suspects who have gone into hiding, intensifying efforts to bring all those involved in this high-level fraud to justice.

In response to this egregious case of financial misconduct, the agencies responsible for the investigation have committed to continuing their efforts to uncover corrupt individuals and networks.
