Three employees of Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) were on Monday arraigned for stealing petroleum products from the company’s terminal in Kisumu County.

Reuben Andolo Aseneka, Joseph Mbugua Mwai and Mutai Micah were charged with conspiracy to steal 13,852 litres of motor spirit premium worth Sh2,431,178.

Before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Dickson Onyango, the court learnt that the trio made away with the fuel products belonging to oil marketing firms that was in the custody of KPC.

Prosecution led by SADPP Catherine Mwaniki, SPPC Patrick Okango and SPC Shitsama Lighami opposed their release on bond arguing that offence amounted to economic sabotage

In his response, the Chief Magistrate indicated that every person enjoyed the right to be released on bond, even though that right is not absolute.

The accused persons pleaded denied the charge and were released on a bond of Sh500,000 and a surety of a similar amount each.

The case is set to be mentioned on October 3, 2023 for a pre-trial hearing.
