Two suspects linked to a harrowing incident involving the robbery, gang-rape, and subsequent murder of a 76-year-old woman in the Serem area of Vihiga County have been apprehended, bringing a glimmer of hope for justice in this gruesome case.

The suspects, identified as Patrick Misiko, aged 36, and Christine Jerono, aged 46, were captured by authorities in Majengo, within the same county.

At the time of their arrest, they were found to be in possession of the victim's mobile phone, bearing the brand name "Oking OK 237."

This phone had been among the possessions taken from her during the horrifying event that unfolded on July 18.

In the dark hours of that fateful night, the assailant gang forcibly entered the elderly woman's residence, subjecting her to a brutal assault with blunt objects.

This appalling act was compounded by the gang's acts of sexual violence against her.

After ransacking her home and stealing items such as a gas cylinder, a solar cable, phone, and her shopping, the criminals left her in excruciating pain, which tragically led to her untimely demise.

Although neighbours had been alerted by the disturbance at the victim's home, their efforts to intervene were thwarted by the speed of the perpetrators' escape.

Rushing her to Mbale referral hospital in a desperate bid to save her life, the neighbours' attempts proved futile, as the elderly woman succumbed to severe head injuries just two days later.

The Tambua Police Post initially received the case report and promptly handed it over to the Hamisi Sub-county detectives.

Working in collaboration with Crime Scene Investigators and aided by their counterparts from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, the detectives embarked on an intensive forensic investigation to trace the culprits behind this heinous act.

As the interrogation of Patrick Misiko and Christine Jerono unfolds, law enforcement officials are intensifying their efforts to locate and apprehend any potential accomplices. Local police remain vigilant, determined to ensure that justice prevails in this deeply distressing case.
