In a distressing incident that unfolded on Tuesday morning, suspected Al-Shabaab militants launched an attack on the Lamu-Witu-Garsen highway, leaving three individuals missing and causing disruption to the travel plans of several commuters.

Reports indicate that the militants carried out a series of attacks on vehicles traveling along the Mombasa and Lamu routes, specifically targeting the Koreni area of Lamu.

Among the vehicles targeted was a Toyota Probox, which was fired upon during the attack.

In a desperate bid to escape the assailants, another Toyota Probox attempted a daring U-turn manoeuvre.

However, the vehicle lost control in the process, veering off the road and crashing into the nearby undergrowth.

Occupants of the first targeted vehicle, displaying quick thinking and resilience, managed to flee from the scene of the attack, ultimately finding safety.

Meanwhile, a more sombre outcome was experienced by those travelling in the car that careened off the road.

Regrettably, three individuals from this vehicle have been reported missing following the incident.

This strategic manoeuvre allowed them to escape the danger that was looming ahead.

Security forces and local authorities have swiftly responded to the incident, launching a search and rescue operation to locate the missing individuals and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The incident has further heightened concerns about the persistent threat of militants in the region, urging both residents and travellers to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
