A police officer is facing disciplinary action from after he hosted a live session on popular social media platform TikTok in which his followers disparaged President William Ruto.
In a statement, National Police Service (NPS) criticized the officer identified as Songo Githongo for his conduct terming his assertions in the video “misleading and reckless.”
“The attention of the National Police Service is drawn to a video clip circulating on social media, depicting an improperly dressed 'Police Officer' making misleading and reckless remarks,” said NPS in the statement shared on its official Twitter handle.
NPS distanced itself from the behavior of the said police, as portrayed in the video clip that went viral on various social media platforms on Wednesday, terming it unacceptable.
“As a Disciplined Service, we wish to clarify and assure the public that the behaviour portrayed in the clip is not only unacceptable but also doesn't reflect the values of NPS,” the Service went on.

The Service revealed that it would conduct an internal review of the contents of the viral TikTok video clip before deciding on the disciplinary action it would take against Githongo.
“The remarks are therefore regrettable and stand condemned in the strongest terms possible, even as we embark on an internal review with a view of preferring appropriate disciplinary action,” NPS concluded.
In the clip, the cop reads comments from his followers during a session on the ongoing anti-government demos by the opposition in which a section wrote “Ruto must go” on his wall.
