Kenya's security forces engaged in a fierce clash with Al Shabaab militants on Wednesday evening, resulting in the death of 20 militants in Mandera, according to police officials.

The encounter took place in Ogorwen Location within Mandera County, where the terrorists ambushed the Special Operations Group (SOG) team.

According to Resila Onyango, the police spokesperson, the clash occurred when the officers were pursuing the gang.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the resulting heavy gunfire exchange between the officers who were on patrol and the militants left twenty militants fatally injured and eight NPS officers injured," Onyango said.

The officers had been in pursuit of the gang when they came under attack with a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), which initiated the intense clash.

The injured officers were promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment, with plans underway for their evacuation to Nairobi.

Significant evidence was collected at the scene of the encounter, including a submachine gun and an RPG.

The recovery of these weapons underscores the severity of the threat posed by the militants.

Following the engagement, the bodies of the terrorists were processed for burial in accordance with necessary protocols.

The incident marks another successful operation by Kenya's security forces in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and maintain peace and stability in the region.

As investigations continue, authorities are working tirelessly to gather more information about the militant group and their activities in the area.

The incident serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required in the fight against terrorism.

The clash with Al Shabaab militants highlights the dedication and bravery of Kenya's Special Operations Group in their commitment to protecting the nation from extremist threats.
