President William Ruto has expressed his concerns over the current allocation of government funds, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach between development and recurrent expenditure.

The President highlighted that the government is currently allocating a higher percentage of resources towards recurrent expenditure, particularly salaries and wages, surpassing the target set by the administration.

Ruto addressed the issue, stressing the importance of reducing recurrent expenditure in order to avoid depriving the country's development plans of sufficient funding.

He noted that approximately 46 per cent of the national budget is currently allocated to salaries and wages, a figure significantly higher than the government's target of 35 per cent.

"This is way above our target of 35 per cent. We must work towards bringing down the figure," President Ruto declared.

He called upon the newly appointed Principal Secretaries to collaborate closely with their respective Cabinet Secretaries to effectively implement the government's agenda, ultimately delivering on the promises made to the Kenyan people.

The President expressed confidence in their capabilities, stating, "You have the requisite knowledge to deliver on this agenda."

President Ruto specifically called upon the State Department for Performance and Delivery Services to enhance accountability among public servants, foster increased productivity, and ensure fair remuneration.

He also emphasized the importance of adopting best practices in correctional services, aiming to empower prisoners and prepare them for meaningful engagement within the country.

Prudent management of public resources was another key aspect highlighted by Ruto during the ceremony.

He urged all government officials and leaders present, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, to exercise responsibility and ensure the efficient and effective use of public funds.

By reducing the allocation for recurrent expenditure, the government aims to allocate a larger proportion of the budget towards development initiatives, fostering sustained economic growth and ensuring a better future for all Kenyans.
