Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has emerged victorious after the Senate voted in his favour, effectively saving him from impeachment.
President William Ruto's allies in the Senate orchestrated a dramatic turn of events, capitalizing on their numbers to reject the Ad-hoc committee's report that had recommended his removal from office.
This political battle showcased the power play between the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio factions in the Senate.
In a surprising twist, 27 Kenya Kwanza Senators opposed each of the two charges levelled against the Deputy Governor, surpassing the 16 Azimio Senators who had voted to uphold the charges.
This voting outcome has secured Oduol's position, allowing him to continue serving as the Deputy Governor of Siaya.

"The net effect of this vote is that the Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment Hon William Oduol, the Deputy Governor of Siaya, and that the DG continues to hold office," stated Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, clearly emphasizing the significance of the decision.
The 11-member panel, led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang, had previously found Oduol guilty of gross violations of the constitution, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.
However, the voting pattern in the Senate served as a powerful counterargument to these charges, ultimately upholding Oduol's position.
The Senate's decision has sparked both jubilation and consternation among the political circles in Siaya and beyond.
Supporters of Oduol hail the Senate's decision as a triumph for justice, viewing it as a testament to his innocence. They believe that the charges brought against him were politically motivated and lacked substantial evidence.
On the other hand, critics argue that the Senate's decision sets a worrying precedent. They express concern that it may embolden public officials to disregard the Constitution and abuse their power without facing appropriate consequences.
As the dust settles, Deputy Governor William Oduol is expected to resume his duties in Siaya.
