Senators were on Thursday marveled by the Sh1.1 million chair that has found itself dragged into the impeachment trial hearing of ousted Siaya County Deputy Governor William Oduol.

During the trial, the excited senators took turns to have a closer look and feel of the luxurious chair said to have been picked from the Siaya County office of embattled Oduol.

The Senate Committee handling the impeachment trial heard that the expensive chair was bought during renovation for the office the then Deputy Governor at a cost of Sh18 million.

Majority of MCAs in the Siaya County Assembly impeached Oduol on June 8, 2023 on allegations of gross violation of the Constitution, misappropriation of public resources, among other laws.

With Oduol present, the Senate Committee was told that the DG pressed the County Government into purchasing the lavish chair immediately after being sworn into office.

This comes a day after Siaya MCAs, through their lawyer Willis Otieno, told Senators that Oduol allegedly meddled with procurement processes to sway award of 86 road tenders.

However, when he appeared before the Senate, Oduol denied the four allegations facing him as well as his said involvement in the Sh18 million renovations that were undertaken in his office.

In the said renovations, Sh1.1 million was used on a “presidential chair” for the Deputy Governor’s office alongside soundproofing for the same office that cost Sh2 million.

he instead blames his current woes on his recent claims that Governor James Orengo was behind huge imprest withdrawals in Siaya since November.
