The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has pledged its unwavering support to Safaricom, Kenya's leading mobile communication service provider, in the fight against fraud.

During a visit by a delegation of top Safaricom managers to the DCI headquarters, Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin expressed his commitment to strengthening the partnership between the two organizations.

In a meeting led by James Kiama, Head of Route to Customer at Safaricom PLC, the DCI chief emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between the service provider and security agencies, particularly in tackling fraudulent activities carried out through the mobile phone network.

Amin acknowledged the alarming rise of technologically adept criminals who exploit rapid advances in technology for their illicit schemes.

To combat this growing threat, one of the strategies adopted by DCI and Safaricom is to enhance information-sharing platforms, including social media, to raise awareness and educate the public about crimes committed through mobile phone networks.

In a noteworthy show of support, Safaricom has aided the DCI by printing the seventh edition of the quarterly DCI magazine, which was received at the DCI headquarters during the meeting.

The publication, which is distributed free of charge, is made possible through the invaluable contributions of esteemed stakeholders and partners such as KCB, Equity Bank, DTB Bank, and others.

By leveraging these partnerships, DCI aims to disseminate crucial information to the public, enabling them to identify and prevent fraudulent activities effectively.

The meeting was attended by notable figures including DCI Deputy Director Ireri Kamwende and Director of Liaison & Communications Tony Munga, among others.

Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration and the shared determination to combat fraud in the mobile communication sector.

The commitment demonstrated by both the DCI and Safaricom in strengthening their alliance will undoubtedly bolster efforts to safeguard the interests of Kenyans against fraudsters who exploit the convenience and ubiquity of mobile phone networks.

With technology evolving rapidly, the collaboration between security agencies and service providers remains crucial in staying one step ahead of criminals who seek to undermine the trust and integrity of mobile communication systems.

The partnership between DCI and Safaricom sets a positive precedent for future collaborations in the fight against fraud, as well as serves as an exemplary model for other organizations and stakeholders to come together in protecting the interests of the public and ensuring the security of mobile communication networks across Kenya.
