President William Ruto has expressed his admiration for the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
During the 21st Extra-Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State held in Bujumbura, Burundi, President Ruto shared his views on the situation.
The Kenyan Head of State emphasized the significant progress achieved over the past two months, which has contributed to restoring normalcy in the country.
He highlighted the importance of appointing a civilian officer to shield the East African Regional Force from involvement in political and public affairs, a measure he believes will strengthen peace and security in the region.
“This will enhance peace and security in the region,” Ruto said.
Ruto expressed gratitude to the Heads of State for their intervention in resolving the conflict in Eastern DRC, which has yielded positive results.
He specifically praised President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC for his efforts in facilitating the deployment that has resulted in the prevention of further violence against women and children.
Moreover, President Ruto extended his congratulations to Annette Mutaawe and Andrea Malueth on their appointments as the EAC Deputy Secretary Generals.
The summit was attended by other esteemed leaders, including President Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, Vice-President Dr Isidori Mpango of Tanzania, Prime Minister Dr Édouard Ngirente of Rwanda, First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga of Uganda, and EAC Secretary General Peter Mathuki, among others.
