Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has transferred all police officers at the Isebania borders in Migori County following violent demonstrations that left five people shot dead.

Kindiki announced the decision on Wednesday saying the Government took the decision to move all cops serving at Isebania Police Station to pave way for an exhaustive investigation.

“I condole with the families and relatives of the deceased residents and assure them that justice will be done and those found culpable held to account, in accordance with the law,” said Kindiki.

The CS also announced the transfer of all Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) officers stationed at Isebania border waring of impending arrest and prosecution of those found culpable of abetting the entry of counterfeit goods into Kenya.

“All KRA, KEBS, Anti-counterfeit and Immigration department serving at Isebania border have also been transferred effective immediately,” Kindiki announced.

He added, “Any officer who through collusion and corruption allows contraband or counterfeit goods to get into the country will not be transferred to another station but interdicted and prosecuted.”


He took the chance to appeal to members of the Kenyan public to desist from taking the law into their own hands, revenging or resorting to destroying property to resolved disputes.

“I will not allow lawlessness and disorder to rule. The Government policy moving forward is that no police officer will serve in one station for more than three years,” intimated the CS.

Kindiki spoke while meeting security and intelligent teams from Nyanza counties flanked by Deputy Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Regional Coordinator Florah Mworoa.

This comes a week after irate protesters raided Isebania Police Station in Migori County with the confrontation leaving five people dead and several civilians and police officers wounded.
