Five suspects have been apprehended in connection with the tragic death of a 23-year-old college student who allegedly fell from a seven-storey building in Gacharage, Ruaka.

Peter Maina, the Kiambaa Deputy County Commissioner, confirmed the arrest of three men and two women in connection to the incident.

"At the time of the incident, there were five people in the room with the victim, and those individuals are currently in custody, cooperating with the police during the investigation," Maina stated.

The individuals involved will remain in custody for a period of 10 days as the police finalize their investigations into the incident.

The late Catherine Njeri, a student at the Kenya Institute of Management, had attended a party at her friend's apartment last Sunday before the unfortunate event took place while she was on the rooftop with her friend's boyfriend.

At approximately 9:30 pm, Njeri left the apartment in the company of her friend's boyfriend and proceeded to the rooftop, where a pavilion is located. However, at around 11 pm, Elvis Mboi, the caretaker of the building, heard a loud noise. Upon investigating, he discovered Njeri's lifeless body on the ground floor, surrounded by a pool of blood.

"Njeri appears to have left our tenant's company and ascended to the seventh-floor pavilion. The tenant resides on the sixth floor, so when we were downstairs, we heard a sound similar to a mat falling on top of a car," Mboi said.

"I couldn't directly identify what it was until I climbed up and saw someone lying there, prompting me to alert the police."

Shortly afterwards, Mboi informed Njeri's friends, who were still inside the apartment enjoying the party. They all rushed outside to ascertain the condition of the deceased.

"They were all frightened. Even those who were asleep woke up and descended to see how they could assist. One of them wanted to cover the body, but the police instructed me not to let anyone touch it, so I prevented them," the caretaker said.

The police promptly moved Njeri's body to Kihara Hospital mortuary, where it awaits the postmortem examination that will determine the cause of death.

In the aftermath of a devastating rooftop incident, the family of the deceased is unyielding in their quest to unravel the truth behind the tragic event as voiced by the deceased's sister Victoria Njeri.

"As the deceased's family, we are determined to uncover whether she was pushed to her death or if she jumped, as well as the exact sequence of events that unfolded on the rooftop," Victoria said.

Njeri's family earnestly hopes that the truth surrounding their daughter's demise will come to light once the investigation into the incident is concluded.
