President William Ruto has nominated the Director of Public Prosecutions Noording Haji to become the next Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Ruto's Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei announced Haji's nomination via a press release issued on Tuesday.

"CONSEQUENTLY, IT IS NOTIFIED that His Excellency the President has, in accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Mr. Noordin Haji, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS)," the press release read.

If approved by the National Assembly, Haji will make a return to the NIS after a six-year stint at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Haji served as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the (NIS) before becoming DPP.

His appointment now awaits confirmation after Parliament's approval.

"HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT has transmitted the nomination to the National Assembly for consideration by Parliament, in fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under the Constitution and the National Intelligence Service Act," the press release read.
