A multiple-storey building that was still under construction is reported to have collapsed at Kibiku shopping centre in Utawala, Nairobi.

The building that has since turned into a pile of rubble came crumbling down on Monday morning.

Kayole Sub-county Police Commissioner Paul Wambugu confirmed the incident and disclosed that investigations into the incident have already been launched.

"I confirm that the house collapsed this morning. We are investigating why," Wambugu.

According to witness report, no casualty has been reported as there was no activity at the construction site at the time of the incident.

The incident comes barely a week after a four-storey building that was also under construction went down in Kiambu on Saturday in the Kidfamaco area in Kikuyu.

Cases of buildings under construction have gone up recently which has raised concerns among Kenyans who wonder what the cause of such incidents could be.

Poor quality construction materials, corruption and unscrupulous constructors have been blamed for most of the incidents.
