On Sunday, officers from the elite Border Police Unit of the AP successfully conducted a covert operation in Nuno area, Garissa County, resulting in the recovery of a cache of firearms and ammunition from four suspects.

The recovered items include 4 AK-47 assault rifles, over 540 rounds of 7.62x39mm calibre, machetes, ballistic helmets, military fatigues, and other weapons.

Intelligence reports from members of the public who had noticed the suspicious activities of the four men, who were driving a white Toyota Probox with registration number KDL 610A prompted the operation.

Upon receiving the tip-off, the O/C Modika Camp immediately mobilized other officers, who intercepted the suspects and recovered the dangerous weapons.

The four suspects were identified as Osman Yussuf Gure, 40, Ali Farah Dagane, 39, Ahmed Mohamed Gedi, 29, and Abdullahi Ali Omar, 38.

Detectives interrogated the suspects to establish the mission behind their possession of the deadly arsenal.

DCI lauded the swift action by the officers based at Modika Camp as the weapons had the potential to cause immense harm and devastation had they been used against innocent civilians.

The recovery of these weapons marks a significant achievement for the security forces, and it demonstrates their continued commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.

Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may compromise their safety and that of others.

However, this comes even as sources within the police indicate that the four arrested suspects were police reservists from Wajir County, who had travelled to Garissa under unclear circumstances without notifying local authorities.
