Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi has recommended the abolition of weekend parking fees in the city as a means of promoting the growth of business establishments.

During the presentation of the Finance Bill 2023 by his County Chief Officers, Sakaja proposed the elimination of weekend parking fees to incentivize business owners to open their doors on weekends and encourage residents to support local commerce.

"When the Finance Bill 2023 is approved by the County Assembly. I propose not to charge weekend parking fees in Nairobi," Sakaja stated.

"This will encourage business establishments to open during the weekend and also provide an opportunity for Nairobi residents to support businesses and accord them an opportunity to transact on the weekends."

Additionally, the governor believes that this policy change will attract more visitors to the Central Business District during weekends, making Nairobi a more vibrant city.

The governor also committed to ensuring round-the-clock security provision to support this initiative and ensure its success.

"I will ensure security provision round the clock. Other leading cities in the World are very vibrant during the weekends. Nairobi should adopt the same vibrancy. As this will ensure growth," the governor added.

By adopting the same vibrancy as other leading cities in the world, Nairobi can ensure its economic growth and development.
