Police at Rioma Police Station acted swiftly in response to a report made by a member of the public, who heard the cries of an infant coming from a pit latrine located within the Rioma Catholic Church compound.

The incident occurred approximately 1.4 kilometers from the police station.

Upon receiving the report, the Officer in Charge of the station and other officers rushed to the scene and demolished the pit latrine to rescue a female infant who was estimated to be only four days old.

The police took the baby to Marani Level 4 Hospital, where they handed her over to the Sub County Chief Nursing Officer in sound health.

The police commended the person who alerted them about the baby for their quick action, which led to the timely rescue of the baby.

"We applaud the member of public that shared the information that led to the timely rescue of the baby, and wish the baby girl, safety and good health," the police said.

We wish the baby girl safety and good health, and hope that she will receive the care and support she needs.

The police noted that the child's well-being is of utmost importance, and the National Police Service through its specialized Child Protection Units is committed to the protection of all children in Kenya.
