Avocado farmers in Kisii County are happy after the county inaugurated a new 70-tonne plant for processing avocados.

On Tuesday, Governor Simba Arati oversaw the launch of the avocado oil extraction plant and announced the news on his social media accounts.

"The Avocado Processing Plant in Kisii County is now a reality! I commissioned the first plant at ATC-Kisii during a ceremony that was graced by British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott," stated Arati.

Furthermore, Arati highlighted that the project was a result of a partnership between the UK Government, Kisii County, and other investors.

"Thanks to our partnership with the UK Government through the Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) Programme, as well as the involvement of Avofresh, an investor, this project has been made possible," said Arati.

Arati expressed his gratitude on behalf of the residents of Kisii County to the UK Government for their collaboration in this undertaking.

"We convey our gratitude to the British Government for selecting Kisii Municipality among the top 12 fast-growing municipalities in Kenya where the UK Government is implementing the Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) programme."

He further stated the county intends to account for the project by demonstrating evidence for improved quality of life both as a government responsibility and a moral obligation that they must fulfil.

While speaking during the event, Marriott said the commissioning of the plant was a fruit of a partnership that empowers the people.

"The commissioning of this facility is a demonstration that, by working in partnership, it is possible to come up with real opportunities and empower our people to cope with daily challenges," Marriott said.
