Police in Muranga County have arrested and brought to court 100 individuals since last Friday in connection with dealing illicit alcohol and drugs.

They have also confiscated over 5,000 litres of chang'aa, over 1000 litres of Kangara, and 100 crates of assorted counterfeit alcoholic drinks.

This comes as the government is tightening the noose on the heavy consumption of alcohol reported in the region.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently launched an onslaught against alcoholism in the region, especially among the youth.

Gachagua expressed his concerns over the matter, stating that the youth in the region are no longer productive, as they have turned into zombies.

“We are losing an entire generation to the illicit liquor being sold in Central Kenya. Youths have become zombies,” Gachagua said.

The National Police Service cautions the public that most local brews contain harmful chemicals and are not fit for human consumption.
