Detectives in Starehe have made a breakthrough in the murder investigation of Job Chihonyi, the 25-year-old student at Utalii College.

Two suspects have been arrested and are being held in custody following a forensic investigation that led to their identification as the culprits.

Maxwel Omukuba Shisika and Kevin Ngechu Wanjiru, both aged 21, were arrested on Friday after detectives traced them to a hideout in Kariobangi North.

They are believed to have robbed and killed Chihonyi on February 5, 2023, just a few meters from Utalii College along Thika Road.

According to the police report, the two suspects accosted Chihonyi, robbed him of his mobile phone, and then drove a knife through his chest before escaping on a motorcycle.

Despite efforts by well-wishers to save his life, Chihonyi was pronounced dead on arrival at Guru Nanak Hospital.

Following the murder, Starehe-based detectives, assisted by sleuths from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in Nairobi, began an investigation that led to the arrest of the two suspects.

The meticulous probe revealed that the suspects were at the scene of the crime at the time of the murder.

During the arrest, a knife believed to have been used to commit the murder was recovered from Maxwell Omukuba and has been kept as an exhibit ahead of forensic analysis.

Kevin Ngechu was found in possession of a mobile phone believed to be the proceeds of the robbery, while the black motorcycle with registration number KMGF 828K used as a getaway vehicle was also recovered.



The two suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting trial.

The suspects' arrest has brought a sense of relief to the family and friends of the late Chihonyi, who had been calling for justice to be served.

The detectives have promised to ensure that the suspects face the full force of the law for their heinous crime.
