The police officer who has been accused of shooting and killing a student at Maseno University during the nationwide protests organized by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition has now claimed that her life is in danger.
Georgina Osoro, who is based at Maseno Police Station, wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Japheth Koome stating that she was falsely accused of shooting the student, William Manyange.
In her letter, Osoro requested that Koome provide her with information about her assignment between March 19, 2023, and March 22, 2023, the period during which the Azimio protests were taking place. She also claimed that on the day of the incident, she was in Kisumu town, far away from the scene.
Furthermore, Osoro stated that she has received unfair treatment from some members of the public and that the incident has caused panic within her family.
She said fears for her life and the safety of her children, making it difficult for her to work or even send her children to school.

“It has become extremely difficult for her to work or even send her children to school on account of well-founded fears that they shall be harmed,” the letter read in part.
To prove her innocence, Osoro requested that Koome provide her with a certified extract from the occurrence book and the certified extract from the arms movement book entries for the same period.
She also asked for the list of police officers who were on assignment on the fateful day.
Additionally, Osoro urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Internal Affairs Department of the National Police Service (NPS) to expedite the investigation into the incident.
She requested that all evidence that may absolve her from the student’s death be considered to prove her innocence to the public.
Manyange was shot in the neck after protesters allegedly raided Maseno Police Line during the heated protests in the area.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Coptic Hospital where he was rushed for emergency medical attention following the tragic end to the running battles between the university students and anti-riot police officers.
