At least fifteen people are feared dead after a lorry loaded with rice ploughed into 10 boda boda operators and 5 some pedestrians in Migori town.

The accident happened near at the newly constructed foot bridge near Migori Primary school, along the Migori-Sirare highway.

Preliminary reports indicate that the lorry had lost control before crashing into the boda boda riders who part at that section of the town waiting for their passengers.

It is also believed the lorry that was travelling from Kakrao towards Siare had experienced brake failure before losing control, but the real cause of the accident is yet to be established.

Some residents of the town took advantage of the situation and rushed to the scene to loot the rice.

Police and emergency response units have already arrived at the accident scene and tried to control the crowd.

This comes after the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome confirmed to Kenyans that the National Police Service had established measures to avert accidents during the Easter festive season.
