President William Ruto is scheduled to fly out of the country on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, for a two-day State visit to Rwanda.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed says Ruto was invited by President Paul Kagame and the trip expected to focus on various mutual infrastructural developments.

“At the invitation of his host, President Paul Kagame, the two Heads of State are expected to deliberate on areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including the Northern Corridor integration projects, food security, innovation and ICT, health and education," said Hussein.

Hussein added that the visit by President Ruto to Kigali will also see the two Heads of State delve into matters of bilateral trade and commerce between East African Community states.

“The visit is further expected to enhance trade and commerce cooperation within the East Africa Community (EAC) and the African continent, as the two leaders re-affirm their commitment to EAC integration and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) cooperation for trade and economic growth,” added Hussein.

He also indicated that regional peace and security will also feature in the discussions between Ruto and Kagame that will culminate in the signing of bilateral agreements.

Ruto’s trip to Rwanda comes barely a week after he returned from a four-day official visit to Germany and Belgium with a focus on boosting relations with the European Union (EU).

In Germany, he met with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and also delivered a keynote speech at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue.

And in Belgium, he met Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and discussed collaborations with Kenya on health, food security, drought mitigation, climate action, trade and investment.
