Police have arrested 14 suspects so far following the violence seen in Kisumu and Migori counties during the Azimio anti-government demonstrations last Thursday.

The suspects include two criminals who were part of a gang that robbed a Jamii store and made off with over Sh5 million worth of merchandise.

Isaac Odhiambo and Peter Ochieng were arrested on Friday morning, and during their arrest, police recovered food items including packets of flour, sugar, rice and tea leaves believed to have been stolen from the shop.

The suspects were arraigned before a Kisumu law court under separate petition no. E088/2023, and the investigating officers were given 10 days to detain them until after the investigation of the incident was completed.

Subsequently, the rest of the twelve men were arrested in Suna East for establishing illegal roadblocks on the Migori-Isebania and Namba-Kakrao roads.

They were accused of extorting money from members of the public, totaling Sh2,645 in Sh10 and Sh20 coins and in Sh50, Sh100, Sh200 and Sh500 notes.

The 14 individuals arrested at the Migori Police Station will enter their pleas on Tuesday.
